Face Masks
Here's some information about your custom made cloth face mask.
Here's the side of your face mask that others should see - large fold at the top, 3 smaller folds at the bottom and the folds going down so anything landing on your face mask slides down and off and does not get caught in the folds.

Here's the side that you should see when you're putting your face mask on - two little folds in the middle, larger folds above and below, and the folds point upwards.
Some of your face masks have a little X sewn into it to make it easier for you to put it on correctly. Find the X and put that on the top of your nose.
There is an opening on the inside of your face mask where you can optionally insert a filter for added protection. I recommend that you use a piece of coffee filter. The filter should be used one time only and then discarded.
Note: In this October 2020 article on cloth face masks (from the McMaster University web site), filters are not recommended.
Washing Your Face Mask
You can wear your cloth mask multiple times during a day provided that it does not get wet or soiled. It should be washed before you wear it another day.
Your face mask has been pre-washed and it will likely shrink a little after more washings.
Wash your cloth mask by:
- Putting it directly into the washing machine, using a hot cycle, and then dry thoroughly
- Washing it thoroughly by hand, using soap and warm/hot water
- allow it to dry completely in the dryer or on a clothesline before wearing it again
Refer to the Health Canada web site for more information about wearing and handling your cloth face mask.
Stay safe!
